I have had a very diverse work life.  Having been a nanny, and a chambermaid, then I worked at a dry cleaners, and in a bakery as a baker’s assistant.  I have worked at a registry office, did Secretarial service for a Lawyer’s office and for many years I worked for the Alberta Health Service as a secretary/receptionist in a Health Unit.

 I retired about 4 years ago, and discovered that I still wanted to be productive, but did not want to go back to a nine to five job.  I looked into a multitude of entrepreneurial opportunities and found I was working very hard but not making very much money.  So, I decided I needed something that I had some control over.  My very own business, where I would get paid based on the amount of work I did, and where I would have the control over how much work I wanted to do.

 One day while checking out “facebook” on my computer, I saw a posting for a business for sale, and I went to check it out.  It was the perfect business for me.  I come from a large family and I have done a lot of work around children, so when I saw this business where I could meet and possibly get to know a lot of newborn babies, and their moms, I was hooked.

 I now have the perfect business for a grandmother who still has a lot of living to do.  I get to meet, hold and talk to newborns. I do their impressions in soft clay and then I get to go home and play in clay and plaster.  I finish with beautifully painted Bronze plaque(s) with engraved titles for the family.  This gives them a special personalized souvenir of their baby’s hand and or footprints so that they will always know how tiny their babies were.  They can last forever, and I can go on and meet more babies and families.
